Father Acervo’s Corner: October 30, 2016

1 .Please remember that our parish mission is November 5-9. Talks will be given each evening by Fr. Louis Guardiola of the Fathers of Mercy. I am hoping that everyone can make at least some of the talks, so please be there as much as you can.  Fr. Guardiola will be speaking about the Eucharist and Divine Mercy as well as the messages of Fatima.

2. November 1 is All Saints Day (a Holy Day of Obligation). Masses will be at 8 A.M., 12 P.M. (Tridentine), and 7 P.M. There will also be a Vigil Mass on October 31 at 7 P.M.  November 2 is All Souls Day and will have the same Mass schedule as All Saints Day (no Vigil Mass).

3. We are going to begin using a new musical setting for our Masses (in addition to the settings that we have used previously). This Mass setting is in our missalettes, so it should be easy enough to learn, but it is interspersed with the parts of the Mass so it jumps around. It is called the “Mass of Redemption”.  The Kyrie (Lord, have mercy) is on page 8.  The Gloria is on page 10.  The Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy) is on page 76.  The Memorial Acclamation (sung after the priest sings, “The Mystery of Faith”) is on page 82.  The Great Amen is on page 86.  The Lamb of God is on page 90.  Hilary will be going over it before the Masses on the weekend of November 12-13, so if you come to Mass fifteen minutes early, you’ll be able to hear what it sounds like.  There’s also a link on our parish website if you’d like to listen to it.

4. I am pleased to announce that our parish (with a special assist from our Altar Society) has acquired a one-year subscription to a new online catechetical platform called FORMED. This is something that I have been interested in for some time because in this modern age, people are spending more time online, and as a Church, we need to be where people are. By using FORMED, every parishioner will be able to have 24/7 access to all kinds of Catholic content: movies, programs, audio, and books.  All this can be accessed using any computer, smartphone, and tablet with internet access.  Everything is “On Demand” these days, and now faith formation can be on demand wherever you go.

So how can you access FORMED?  Using any web browser, go to formed.org.  Click Register.  Enter our Parish Code (TDJFFC) and your email address.  Fill in your name and address and then create a password.  After you hit Submit, you’ll get an email that will ask you to verify your email address.  Open the email and click the link to activate your account.  Once you’re registered as a parishioner, you’ll be able to access everything on FORMED.

Who can use our parish code?  Our subscription to FORMED can be used by anyone who lives in our parish boundaries (Catholic, non-Catholic, parishioner, non-parishioner).  As a parish, we are at the service of all souls who live in our boundaries, and sharing FORMED with friends and family members who are not Catholic but are interested in learning about the Catholic faith can be a great way for us to evangelize.

Our subscription can also be used by registered parishioners who live outside of our parish boundaries.  College students, those who are serving in the military, parishioners who head south for the winter, can all register and use FORMED.

Faith formation is a lifelong task, and FORMED gives us another way that we can do this.  I hope that you’ll all be able to use it and benefit from it.  If you have any questions, please send me an email.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Acervo
